Introduction to Athletic Training is designed for students interested in career fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, fitness, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, and other sports medicine related fields. The course includes lecture and hands-on application in the following areas: prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, taping, bandaging and wrapping of injuries, first aid/CPR, emergency procedures, sports psychology, therapeutic modalities, and sports medicine career exploration. Skills in science, math, communications, health, and social studies are reinforced. Physical demands are part of the training and part of the many skills required of the athletic trainer and sports medicine team. Certification in Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider is available upon successful completion of the American Heart Association curriculum. Students have the option to dual enroll with the University of Nebraska at Omaha, earning 3 college credits.
